How Does A Proper Sociology Research Paper Abstract Looks Like?
When writing a research paper - or any other major academic essays, such as dissertations and theses - you may be required to write a particular section which will be used at the beginning of your work. This section is called an abstract, and will be used to entice readers to continue examining the work that you have produced.
As a result, it is a highly important piece of work, largely because it will be the first thing that readers will see of your work. If it is written to a high quality, then people will want to continue reading your work; however, it is badly written, then this may not help to persuade people to continue reading.
- Your abstract should be short and to the point
- Your abstract may include a hypothesis
- Your abstract should include details about the aims of your paper
- You need to include details about any important research methods
- You may refer to other studies that have been performed
An abstract should not be very long; in fact, it will only be a few paragraphs long, and may be anywhere between half a page and page in length, and shouldn’t be much longer. As a result, you need to be clear with everything you’re writing, and avoid using any unnecessary words. In fact you should be completely to the point, and only use any words or sentences that are entirely necessary, and add value to your abstract.
One of the main aims of your abstract, other than to encourage people to continue reading, is to include various details about the work. For example, you may include a hypothesis in your abstract, which will outline any results that you expect to discover as a result of your work.
As well as including a hypothesis, you may provide any aims of your paper, including what you hope to achieve as a result of your research.
Having included details about why you are writing the research paper, you will need to include any research methods that you will be using.
Finally, if there have been any other studies in the area that you as writing about then you may wish to include details of these. It may be that they back up any points that you’re making, or they may have even been the inspiration for the work that you are doing.
